Imphal — The United Kuki Liberation Army (UKLA) has issued a public threat to three sitting Manipur MLAs, giving them until February 20, 2026 to resign or face what the group described as “severe punishment,” including capital punishment. The warning, dated February 7, 2026 and attributed to the UKLA’s “Central Committee,” accuses the legislators of siding with the state government amid ongoing ethnic violence in the region.
In its statement, the UKLA alleged that the Manipur government was acting against the “interests, lives and dignity” of the Kuki‑Zo community. The three legislators named were Nemcha Kipgen, L M Khaute and Ngursanglur Sanate, whom the group said had been cooperating with the state despite representing Kuki‑Zo constituencies.
The release described the demand for resignations as a “final warning,” and said failure to comply by the February 20 deadline would result in the MLAs being treated as “collaborators” and “enemies of the people.” The statement also warned that no organisation or individual had the authority to intervene and threatened strict action against anyone who opposed the directive.
The UKLA’s message further claimed that the Kuki‑Zo people had “lost faith” in the existing government system and reiterated a demand for a separate political administration carved out of Manipur. The group framed the order as part of its response to the wider ethnic conflict affecting the state.
The threats mark a serious escalation in rhetoric from an armed group and add to security and political tensions in Manipur as the February 20 deadline approaches.
