Jatah PHC Launches State-of-the-Art Ambulance for Enhanced Care
Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh has delivered a fully equipped ambulance worth ₹14.47 lakh to the Jatah Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Shillong, a crucial step aimed at enhancing emergency medical services for 18 nearby villages. The procurement follows an urgent request made six months ago by the Association of 18 Sirdar Shnongs, which emphasized the need for a reliable transport vehicle. The existing ambulance at the PHC had become outdated and unusable, frequently impeding the transfer of patients to Community Health Centres (CHCs) or referral hospitals in Shillong.
During the ceremony, Lyngdoh emphasized the importance of the initiative for public safety. “Upon receiving the representation from the Sirdar Shnongs, I recognized it as a genuine and critical necessity, as it directly affects the lives and health of our residents,” he stated. The MLA revealed that funding for the ambulance was approved under the Special Rural Work Programme (SRWP) for the 2025-26 fiscal year. While he acknowledged the considerable expense, he highlighted the long-term benefits this investment would bring to the community.
The leaders of the Association of Sirdar Shnongs and the staff at Jatah PHC were enthusiastic about the new vehicle, noting that it would significantly improve the facility’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies. The event was attended by village elders, healthcare workers, and local residents, all of whom described the addition as a vital enhancement for healthcare delivery in this remote constituency.
