Shocking Collapse: Recently Unveiled Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue Falls in Maharashtra – FIR Filed!
A statue of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year at Rajkot Fort in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, collapsed on Monday. The 35-feet statue fell around 1 pm, prompting senior police and district administration officials to assess the damage. While experts will determine the cause, heavy rains and strong winds have been noted recently.
The statue was initially coordinated by the state government and the Indian Navy before being handed to local authorities for maintenance. An FIR was filed against Jaydeep Aapte, the proprietor of the M/s Artist company, and structural consultant Chetan Patil.
The Indian Navy has initiated an immediate investigation into the incident, expressing concern and committing to repair and restore the statue.
Opposition leaders, including NCP’s Jayant Patil and Shiv Sena’s Aaditya Thackeray, criticized the state government for allegedly compromising on work quality for political gains. Thackeray accused the BJP of arrogance and neglecting locals’ input, while AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi blamed the poor infrastructure quality as a reflection of the Modi administration’s performance.
In response, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde called the incident unfortunate and ordered a probe. He emphasized plans to reinstall the statue, highlighting its significance as a tribute to Shivaji Maharaj. Minister Deepak Kesarkar confirmed a commitment to a thorough investigation and the erection of a new statue at the same location.
