Outrage as Manipur BJP Spokesperson’s House Faces Yet Another Shocking Attack
BJP Spokesperson’s Home Targeted Amid Manipur Violence, Community Outraged
Manipur BJP spokesperson T. Michael Lamjathang Haokip revealed on Sunday night, August 25, that his parents’ residence in Phatthei In, Peniel village, had been attacked for a second time by armed miscreants amidst the ongoing violence in Manipur. The assault on Haokip, a prominent member of the Thadou tribe, occurred shortly after three MLAs, among the ten demanding a separate administration from Manipur, insisted on being recognized by their correct tribal names rather than the collective term "Kuki-Zo."
Using the microblogging platform X, Haokip shared his faith and the communal support, stating, "We trust in God’s protection and guidance. We are lifting our prayers and many are standing with us in prayer for the Thadou community."
Thadou Community International (TCI) strongly condemned the attack, accusing it of being an attempt to incite fear within the Thadou people. According to TCI, the incident, involving around 30 armed attackers, took place at approximately 10:30 pm. The miscreants fired several rounds and set parts of the property on fire. A viral video even showed a gunman threatening to shoot Haokip.
TCI emphasized that the attack is not just on Haokip’s family but the Thadou community as a whole, highlighting widespread human rights abuses by Kuki supremacists, such as the denial of tribe certificates and forced identification as Kuki. They questioned how such actions could occur in a democratic country that guarantees fundamental rights.
TCI demanded immediate government action against the perpetrators and called for scrutiny of the fake Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) and its operatives, urging authorities to ensure justice and protection for the Thadou community.
