IAS Trainees Explore Imphal Airport: A Unique Field Exposure Experience
Imphal International Airport hosted a one-day field exposure program on Friday for ten IAS officer trainees from the 2025 batch, currently training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. The trainees arrived from Guwahati around 11 AM to gain hands-on experience of the various operations and management functions at the airport.
According to Chipemmi Keishing, the Director of Imphal Airport, this visit was part of the trainees’ field studies. The objective was to familiarize them with aviation infrastructure, passenger handling, security arrangements, and the overall administrative functioning of a major public facility.
A highlight of the visit was a mock bomb disposal drill conducted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The drill demonstrated the preparedness and response techniques for managing explosive threats, emphasizing the critical importance of coordinated action during emergencies.
The trainees also toured the Airport Fire Service station, where they observed demonstrations of advanced firefighting techniques and emergency response protocols. They further visited the Air Traffic Services (ATS) tower to gain insights into air traffic management operations.
Meghna Chakravorty, an IAS officer trainee, expressed her gratitude to the officials and staff of Imphal Airport for their hospitality and the organization of the program. She noted that the visit provided essential insights into airport operations and deepened their understanding of logistical aspects.
“We got to experience how the airport functions from behind the scenes, which has enriched our understanding. This aligns perfectly with what the academy expected from our visit,” she remarked.
Chakravorty added that their three-day trip to Manipur would focus on exploring infrastructure, welfare, and security aspects in the state.
