Catherine O’Hara, the beloved Emmy-winning actress renowned for her comedic roles spanning decades, passed away on Friday at the age of 71. Best known for her portrayal of Kevin’s overwhelmed mother in “Home Alone” and the memorable Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek,” O’Hara died at her home in Los Angeles due to what her agency, Creative Artists Agency, described as a “brief illness.” No further details have been released at this time.

O’Hara’s career began in the 1970s at the Second City in Toronto, where she first collaborated with Eugene Levy, who would become a lifelong partner in both friendship and career. Together, they were part of the original cast of the acclaimed sketch show SCTV, which helped launch the careers of several other prominent Canadian comedians, including Martin Short and Andrea Martin.

In addition to her comedic legacy, O’Hara recently received an Emmy nomination for her dramatic performance in HBO’s “The Last of Us,” as well as for her role as a Hollywood producer in “The Studio.”

She is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and her two sons, Matthew and Luke.
