A 33-year-old man named Karan Doltani was arrested by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch on Monday in Gurgaon. He had been evading law enforcement after jumping interim bail connected to a conviction for raping his domestic worker’s daughter back in 2016. Officers confirmed that Doltani had been sentenced to ten years in prison for this crime.
Doltani was apprehended near the Ghamroj toll plaza in Gurgaon. In addition to his previous conviction, he faces new allegations of raping a woman associated with his family in 2022.
According to police reports, Doltani was convicted under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the 2016 case. He received interim bail for 28 days due to medical issues concerning his wife but failed to return to court once the bail period expired. Since then, he has been in hiding, breaching the terms of his bail and eluding arrest.
Further investigations revealed that Doltani is also wanted in a similar case that was registered on September 2, 2022. This case involves charges under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), and 377 (unnatural sexual acts) of the IPC, alleging sexual assault on a woman known to his family.
DCP of the Crime Branch, Harsh Indora, stated, “In 2016, the accused sexually assaulted a girl, the daughter of his domestic worker, at his residence. Later, in 2022, he again committed sexual assault against a friend of his wife, leading to the registration of another case against him.”
According to police, Doltani had prior employment at a call center and completed his education up to Class 12. Investigators are finalizing his arrest procedures and are collaborating with local police for subsequent legal actions.
The authorities noted that his arrest was crucial to ensure he is presented in court for the pending case and serves the sentence mandated by the earlier conviction.
