Discover Assam’s Spiritual Circuit: 21 Sites Celebrating Srimanta Sankardev
The Assam government has announced plans to create a Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev Spiritual Circuit, which will focus on reviving and promoting 21 locations linked to the life and travels of the revered saint. Srimanta Sankardev, a pivotal figure in Assam’s spiritual and cultural landscape, is believed to have spent at least a day at each of these significant sites. The proposed circuit aims to connect these locations to facilitate pilgrimage, promote cultural tourism, and ensure the long-term preservation of the state’s rich Vaishnavite heritage.
During the inauguration of the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati on January 27, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing cultural infrastructure. He envisions Guwahati as a key hub for conventions and cultural events.
Addressing those gathered, Sarma highlighted that the newly constructed 800-seater auditorium will serve as a major venue for cultural programs, performances, and public gatherings. This development intends to bolster Assam’s artistic ecosystem and create opportunities for both national and international collaborations.
Describing the auditorium as a “significant addition” to Assam’s cultural framework, the Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting heritage, the arts, and community involvement. He also shared a broader vision of positioning Assam as an attractive spiritual tourism destination. The Sankardev Spiritual Circuit will not only focus on restoring but also promoting sites associated with the extensive travels of the 15th-century Vaishnavite saint. This initiative is designed to both preserve Assam’s cultural legacy and attract pilgrims and tourists from across India and around the world.
