Governor and CM Unveil Locally Inspired Premium Dark Chocolates on Republic Day
On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day of India and the significant milestone of 50 years of Sikkim’s Statehood, the Government Fruit Preservation Factory (GFPF) launched three premium dark chocolates inspired by local ingredients. This initiative, under the Commerce & Industries Department of Sikkim, highlights the state’s rich agricultural heritage and honors its farmers’ commitment.
The launch event saw the esteemed presence of Sikkim’s Governor, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Secretary of Commerce & Industries Ms. Karma D. Youtso, and GFPF Managing Director Ms. Chanda Rani Rai, alongside senior officials from GFPF.
Each chocolate variety derives its identity from Sikkim’s famous agricultural products. The Sikkim Mandarin Orange Dark Chocolate (55% cocoa) pays tribute to the iconic mandarins integral to the state’s culture for decades. The Dalle Chilli Dark Chocolate (47% cocoa) introduces a bold flavor, featuring the GI-tagged Dalle Chilli known for its distinctive heat and aroma. Lastly, the Large Cardamom Dark Chocolate (47% cocoa) showcases Sikkim’s renowned GI-tagged Large Cardamom, celebrated for its exceptional quality and rich fragrance.
“These chocolates not only represent premium confections but also symbolize our dedication to honoring farmers and celebrating local produce, while preserving traditional knowledge through innovative value addition,” stated Chanda Rani Rai, Managing Director of GFPF. She emphasized that as Sikkim commemorates 50 years of Statehood, these products stand as a tribute to the farmers who have nurtured these crops into symbols of pride for Sikkim.
Rai further remarked that the launch signifies the transformation of local strengths and resources into sustainable economic opportunities, aligning with the state government’s vision of inclusive growth, innovation, and enhancement of local identity.
With a blend of pride and purpose, this launch celebrates the ethos of “Sunawlo, Samriddhi ani Samartha Sikkim,” reflecting a prosperous and empowered future for the state.
