Transforming Tengnoupal: Key Infrastructure Initiatives Under the Vibrant Villages Programme
Imphal: The central government’s Vibrant Villages Programme Phase-II has identified 16 border villages in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district for critical infrastructure interventions (CII). Baseline surveys for these locations have been completed, and an additional 239 villages have been verified for interventions ranging from roads to telecom connectivity and livelihood assets, according to District Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Yadav, IAS, during the 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Tengnoupal High School Ground.
The DC highlighted the infrastructure progress made during the 2025–26 financial year, noting that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has generated 609,467 person-days of employment-averaging 46.77 man-days per household for over 17,098 job card holders in the Tengnoupal, Machi, and Moreh blocks. He emphasized the commitment to the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and the Ajeevika Mission – Gramin, which aims to increase employment opportunities to 125 workdays, bolster asset creation, align activities with agricultural cycles, and open new funding avenues en route to Viksit Bharat 2047.
Social mobilization has further strengthened community institutions through the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). The formation of new Self-Help Groups (SHGs) has resulted in a total of 357 SHGs across 54 Village Level Federations (VLF) and 4 Cluster Level Federations (CLF), all supported by systematic training in bookkeeping, auditing, and leadership.
Notable success has been seen in livelihood initiatives, benefiting 30 piggery units, 60 women trained in tailoring, 50 entrepreneurs provided with RAMP branding and skill training, and 60 individuals assisted with Udyam registration. Of 60 trained youths under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), 27 have already secured employment.
Social welfare schemes continue to provide support for vulnerable populations, with the National Social Assistance Programme aiding 1,104 elderly citizens, 106 widows, and 18 individuals with disabilities. Meanwhile, the Annapurna Scheme supplies free food grains to 183 needy beneficiaries.
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to inclusive development, stronger rural livelihoods, and a more secure and prosperous Tengnoupal,” the DC stated, underscoring the district’s focus on social mobilization, financial inclusion, and sustainable growth.
