Assam CM Celebrates Republic Day Tableau: A Proud Display of Culture
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the state’s tableau during the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path, calling it a moment of pride that highlighted Assam’s rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship to a national audience. Sharing his views on social media platform X, Sarma noted that this year, Assam’s tableau led the parade, symbolizing a significant achievement for the state. He emphasized that this event reflects Assam’s journey and its increasing role in India’s development, while also spotlighting the cultural legacy of Asharikandi.
Sarma wrote, “A for Assam at Kartavya Path. From coming last to leading first, our tableau proudly led the procession this Republic Day. A moment that celebrates Assam’s rich culture, Asharikandi heritage, and its place at the forefront of Bharat’s growth story.” The tableau, themed “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” showcased Asharikandi village in the Dhubri district, renowned for housing India’s largest cluster of traditional Assamese terracotta artisans. For generations, families in the village have thrived on clay craftsmanship, preserving both indigenous skills and time-honored artistic traditions.
The centerpiece of the tableau featured a striking terracotta figure holding earthen lamps, while bamboo fencing adorned the tractor segment, symbolizing Assam’s strong bamboo tradition and its significance for rural livelihoods and sustainability.
