The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has announced a significant development in its innovative team-format initiative, 72 The League, with a new franchise based in Rajasthan. This move highlights the league’s commitment to integrating professional golf more deeply into India’s sporting landscape. Launched in collaboration with Game of Life Sports (GOLS), 72 The League aims to establish a high-profile, franchise-based ecosystem for Indian golf. The inaugural season is set to kick off on February 21, 2026, at three premier venues in the Delhi-NCR region, including Classic Golf & Country Club, Jaypee Greens, and Qutab Golf Course. The league will feature a dynamic match-play format designed specifically for digital audiences.
The initial edition will consist of city-based teams, each comprising ten professional golfers selected through a player auction. This structure is expected to attract top Indian golfers from the PGTI circuit, along with prominent international players, positioning it as one of the largest platforms for competitive golf in India. The franchise representing Rajasthan will be jointly owned by Haldiram Snacks Food Pvt. Ltd. and the KLJ Group of Companies. The formal agreement was signed by Kapil Dev, PGTI President, marking their entry into the league.
Kapil Dev expressed his enthusiasm for the new team, stating, “It is wonderful to have Haldiram and KLJ join PGTI’s 72 The League, adding a new dimension to the competition. This team is sure to spark excitement and pride among golf enthusiasts across the state of Rajasthan, and I wish them all the best.” During the league’s launch, he emphasized that 72 The League marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of golf in India, the first structured, team-based national league sanctioned by PGTI, creating fresh opportunities for players. He believes this new format will be thrilling for both players and fans.
Manohar Lal Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Haldiram Snacks Food Pvt.
