Four Arrested in Shocking Contractor Murder Over Wage Dispute in Sikkim
Four construction workers, including a minor, were arrested in Gyalshing district of Sikkim for allegedly murdering their contractor with a hammer over a dispute related to unpaid wages, according to police reports from January 24. The incident occurred on Friday evening at Dentam Tar, where both the victim and the accused hailed from West Bengal.
The deceased, Rajiv Mandal, 27, was a contractor residing in Raiganj, located in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. The four accused were working under him as masons and carpenters.
Superintendent of Police Tshering Sherpa stated that Mandal and the workers were drinking and dining at their rented accommodation when a disagreement about unpaid wages erupted into a heated argument. “The verbal altercation escalated into a physical scuffle, during which one of the accused allegedly struck Mandal on the head with an iron hammer, leading to his death,” the SP elaborated.
Following the incident, the suspects are said to have hired a vehicle in an attempt to flee the area. However, police intercepted their vehicle at Legship based on a tip-off and apprehended all four individuals. An ongoing investigation is currently in progress.
