Manipur Police Solve NH-102 Hit-and-Run: Multiple Arrests Made!
Manipur Police made significant progress in a hit-and-run investigation by arresting three men within 24 hours of the incident that occurred on January 21. The collision on NH-102 near Boroi Makhong tragically resulted in the death of 56-year-old Moirangthem (O) Jibanlata Leima from Thongju Nepram Leirak, while her husband sustained injuries.
On January 22, authorities apprehended Davidson Thokchom (23) from Bashikhong, Robertson Naorem (24) from Naorem Leikai, and Rohit Okram (23) from Singjamei Chingamakha. The police successfully recovered the vehicle involved in the incident, a silver Alto K10 with the registration number MN-06L-6869. The investigation is ongoing.
In a separate case on the same day, police arrested two individuals accused of extortion at Motbung Bazaar in the Kangpokpi district. The suspects were identified as Kaikhochon Kipgen (29) of Saparmeina village and Kaisei Khongsai (22), a resident of Karbi Anglong, Assam, who was staying in Jangnom village.
Additionally, security forces conducted a search operation in Uchol village and surrounding foothill areas under Andro police station in Imphal East district, where they recovered a substantial cache of arms, explosives, and communication equipment. The seized items included a locally-made barrel gun, a .22 rifle with a magazine, six hand grenades, 30 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, four tube-launching devices, and two BAOFENG wireless sets, among other items.
Authorities are continuing area dominance and search operations as part of efforts to combat violence, illegal firearms, and organized crime across the state.
