CFMG Demands NSCN-K Hand Over Accused as Ceasefire IDs Are Revoked
Kohima, January 22 (MExN): The Chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) has ordered the NSCN-K (Khango-Hokato) to surrender seven cadres identified as suspects in an abduction and assault case registered at the Diphupar Police Station in Chümoukedima. This directive came in the wake of an incident on January 19, during which Kiyeto Zhimomi, a local businessman and village chief, was reportedly abducted near his home in Chümoukedima and released early on January 20.
The incident has raised security concerns and elicited strong condemnation from various segments of society. Following a preliminary police investigation into the abduction, a criminal case has been filed under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 7/88 of the NSR.
The individuals accused include H Kiba, Lovito Yeptho, Viniho Kiho, Vika Chophy, Issak Rochill, Hukhevi Yeptho, and Khuluto. Notably, H Kiba, Lovito, Viniho, and Vika were holders of Special Ceasefire Identity Cards, which have now been revoked.
The CFMG’s order also indicates that other group members, whose names have surfaced in media reports, will also be investigated. The CFMG has called on the Ceasefire Supervisory Board NSCN-K (Khango-Hokato) to ensure that these seven prime suspects, believed to be taking refuge at the CFSB office in Thilixu, are handed over to the police for further legal proceedings. It has also mandated that any suspects avoiding arrest must report to the police for investigation.
The events of January 19 have triggered a back-and-forth of claims between the victim and the NSCN-K (Khango-Hokato). In response to the situation, the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH), Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH), and the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) have collectively issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the group. The demands include an unconditional public apology in both print and digital media, the immediate arrest of those involved, a retraction of any alleged mediation claims, and the relocation of the ceasefire monitoring cell from Thilixu village for reportedly violating established ground rules.
