Assam Government Offers Rs 25,000 Aid for Aspiring Research Scholars
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a new initiative to support research scholars in the state, marking a significant advancement in Assam’s academic and innovation landscape. Under the “Atal Vichal Agragami Assam” scheme, which will be officially launched on February 11, 2026, the state government will provide monthly financial assistance of ₹25,000 to research scholars. Those identified as Divyang will receive enhanced support of ₹40,000 per month.
CM Sarma expressed optimism through a post on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “It’s a good time to be a research scholar in Assam.” The initiative aims to empower talent, encourage high-quality research, and foster innovation across various disciplines. Government officials highlighted that this scheme reflects the state’s commitment to transitioning Assam into a knowledge-driven economy, emphasizing investments in human capital and research infrastructure.
This financial assistance is expected to benefit numerous scholars pursuing their research in universities and higher educational institutions throughout Assam. Designed to alleviate financial burdens, the scheme enables scholars to concentrate more effectively on their academic pursuits. Special attention to Divyang research scholars symbolizes the government’s inclusive approach to education and research.
The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to bolster Assam’s education and skill development, aligning with national goals of promoting research, innovation, and self-reliance. In recent years, Assam has implemented various programs aimed at enhancing higher education, skill training, and collaboration between industry and academia.
Education Department officials noted that the monthly support will aid in covering essential academic expenses such as research materials, fieldwork, data collection, and living expenses, which often present challenges for scholars. This announcement has been well received within academic circles, with many scholars seeing it as a timely boost that could significantly increase research output and draw young talent to Assam’s institutions.
As the launch date approaches, the scheme is anticipated to play a pivotal role in cultivating a vibrant research culture in Assam, reinforcing efforts to establish the state as a hub for innovation, learning, and intellectual growth in the region.
