Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Thursday the introduction of a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy aimed at enhancing governance and promoting public welfare in the state. This announcement was made during the Regional AI Impact Conference in Bhopal, organized in collaboration with the India AI Mission. Yadav emphasized the state’s commitment to making AI a cornerstone of transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric governance, backed by the central government.
“This occasion marks a significant step as we introduce an AI policy focused on improving governance and ensuring public welfare,” the Chief Minister stated. He also introduced the Madhya Pradesh Space Tech Policy, showcasing the state’s goal to harness advanced technologies for future development and innovation.
At the event, state officials, including Chief Secretary Anurag Jain and Additional Chief Secretary (Science and Technology) Sanjay Dubey, presented the flagship vision document titled ‘AI for People, Planet and Progress: Madhya Pradesh Roadmap to Impact’. Jain remarked that future generations will likely become more research-oriented, with AI playing a crucial role across various sectors. He addressed concerns about potential job losses due to AI integration but reassured attendees that these fears are unfounded.
“There will be no threat to job opportunities from AI. While some jobs might be transformed or replaced, this will also create new roles. Similar concerns were raised when computers were first introduced, which ultimately resulted in increased job availability,” Jain explained.
Adding to the discussion, Dubey highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s leadership in data generation. “Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to develop its own authentic, internally generated data instead of relying on outsourced sources. We are also supporting other states like Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir in building their own data ecosystems,” he said.
This proactive approach to incorporating AI into governance signifies a transformative shift in how the state aims to improve public services and utilize data for better decision-making.
