54 Grams of Methamphetamine Seized in Imphal East; Husband-Wife Suspects Flee
A joint security force in Manipur seized 54 grams of WY tablets, a form of methamphetamine, from a residence in Kairang Masjid Maning under the Heingang police station in Imphal East district on Thursday, as reported by officials on Friday. The house’s owner, identified as drug smuggler Md. Bashir, 39, along with his wife Sajida, 33, fled the scene as the joint team comprising central and state forces arrived.
The operation was initiated following intelligence reports suggesting that anti-social elements were frequenting the area for illicit activities, particularly drug-related offenses. Over the course of the one-hour operation, the team also confiscated a two-wheeler, a Hero Honda Glamour with registration number MN-01D-1786, from the premises alongside the illegal drugs.
Authorities have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023, in connection with this incident. The police have appealed for public assistance in locating the fugitive couple and have urged them to surrender to the appropriate authorities as soon as possible.
