Smuggler Caught with Heroin Worth Rs 2.6 Crore in Churachandpur: Shocking Arrest
Security forces from both central and state agencies have arrested an alleged smuggler and confiscated 220 soap cases originating from Myanmar, containing 3.3 kilograms of heroin in Manipur. The drug’s estimated value in the local market is around Rs 2.6 crore, according to officials who provided updates on Wednesday.
The arrests came after intelligence reports revealed that smugglers were planning anti-social activities. In response, a joint task force was formed, consisting of the Customs Preventive Force, the Churachandpur District Police, and the 37 Assam Rifles, which was put on high alert.
The joint team acted swiftly, intercepting a vehicle near the Churachandpur district headquarters at a strategic location. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old PK Shektak, a resident of Pearsonmun in Churachandpur, was arrested along with the 220 cases of suspected heroin, and authorities also seized a Bolero vehicle connected to the operation.
Each soap case reportedly contained approximately 15 grams of heroin powder. Law enforcement officials stated that the street value of the seized drug in Imphal fluctuates between Rs 8,000 and Rs 10,000 per gram.
The police have charged the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023, and investigations are ongoing to trace the drug’s origins and identify any possible accomplices involved in the smuggling operation.
