West Bengal Class 12 Marksheets Introduce UV Security Threads to Combat Forgery
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has introduced a crucial new security measure aimed at preventing forgery of mark sheets and pass certificates. A senior official announced that ultraviolet (UV) security threads will be embedded in the higher secondary mark sheets and certificates to bolster their protection against counterfeiting. These UV threads will remain invisible to the naked eye and can only be detected under UV light.
Instead of incorporating a single strip, multiple micro-threads will feature in the mark sheets, according to the official. This enhancement significantly raises the difficulty of duplicating or tampering with these documents. “The multi-micro UV threads are only visible under a UV lamp or torch. The main intention is to prevent forgery, similar to security features used in currency notes,” the official stated.
The new security feature will appear in the final consolidated mark sheets and pass certificates issued after the fourth semester examinations. The decision to implement this measure arose following reports of forged Class 12 documents. Officials noted that only a simple handheld inspection tool, specifically a UV light, would be necessary for verification. Incorporating UV security threads, alongside other advanced security measures, aims to enhance the authenticity and integrity of educational documents.
“This helps to address the widespread issue of forged mark sheets and certificates. As a result, institutions, employers, and foreign universities can easily verify the genuineness of these documents,” the official added. As the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls is underway in West Bengal, mark sheets and certificates are required for individuals summoned for hearings after missing the draft rolls.
