Assam Police Crack Down: Brown Sugar Seized, Truck Driver Arrested
Assam police intercepted a significant drug consignment late on January 10, seizing over half a kilogram of brown sugar from a truck at a checkpoint in the Dima Hasao district. The operation occurred around 10 PM at the Dittokchera check post, which falls under the jurisdiction of Harangajao police station. In a routine vehicle inspection, officers stopped a truck traveling from the Barak Valley toward Nagaon. Upon searching, they discovered 50 soap boxes hidden within a specially designed secret compartment in the truck’s body.
The examination of the boxes revealed a total of 567.72 grams of brown sugar, a known narcotic substance. One individual was apprehended on-site for suspected involvement in drug trafficking activities. In addition to the contraband, the police confiscated the truck, a mobile phone, and a sum of cash from the accused.
Authorities noted that the presence of a hidden compartment points to an organized effort to distribute drugs across various districts. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the origin of the confiscated drugs and identify any potential connections to a broader trafficking network.
