BKRG to Install Seven Container Toilets in Kochi Using CSR Funds
The Better Kochi Response Group (BKRG) is set to install seven container toilets across various parts of Kochi, funded through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Architect and BKRG President S. Gopakumar announced the project, highlighting its collaboration with BPCL’s CSR division and Rotary Cochin Central. One of the toilets will be located at the bustling Vyttila Junction.
These container toilets will feature well-planned interiors, including false ceilings and exhaust systems. Essential electrical and plumbing connections will be completed at each site, along with ramps to ensure accessibility for differently-abled individuals. Gopakumar pointed out that the primary challenge lies in obtaining timely power and water connections, a task that the Kochi Corporation is expected to handle. Previous delays were noted in installing these utilities at a toilet in front of the Corporation office.
Maintenance of the new facilities will be managed by ‘Be Comfort,’ a professional group that will generate necessary funds through usage fees and advertisement revenue. Gopakumar also disclosed that eight additional container toilets are planned for various city locations, pending approval from the Corporation.
Gopakumar emphasized that the initiative will significantly benefit residents and visitors, enhancing the city’s image by ensuring the easy availability of clean and well-maintained public restrooms. The project symbolizes a strategic effort to address the city’s sanitation needs and improve public amenities.
By transforming public sanitation infrastructure, the BKRG aims to provide a crucial service that aligns with urban development goals and CSR commitments, setting a commendable example for other cities.
