The Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW) from Jampui Hills in Tripura’s North District has lodged a memorandum with the officer-in-charge of Vanghmun Police Station, calling for urgent action following a series of vandalism incidents and growing concerns regarding tourist behavior in the region. This appeal comes in light of recent reports where signboards and posters, put up by MCYW and JSBMP, were vandalized near Hmunpui village, as well as damage noted at the entrance to the paragliding site at Tlaksih. The organization has labeled these acts as deliberate and unacceptable, demanding a comprehensive investigation to identify the culprits and implement strict legal consequences.
MCYW contends that these incidents are indicative of a larger trend threatening public safety, community cohesion, and local cultural values in Jampui Hills, which is a prominent tourist destination in North Tripura. In addition to vandalism, the youth wing has expressed concern over the public consumption of alcohol and other intoxicants by tourists in various areas, labeling such behavior as incompatible with local customs and a potential risk to the safety of women and children. They are urging the police to increase patrols and ensure stronger enforcement of existing regulations.
To bolster monitoring and accountability, MCYW has suggested that authorities keep detailed records of all tourist vehicles entering the area, including registration numbers, driver identities, and contact information. They believe this system would enable more efficient responses to any violations. Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding the usage of loudspeakers by visitors in village areas, which MCYW claims disrupts daily life and disturbs local communities. The organization is advocating for restrictions on amplified sound in residential zones.
The memorandum was signed by MCYW president Lalduhsanga Thangluah and general secretary Vanrokima Royte, who stated that they expect prompt action from the police to safeguard the dignity, safety, and social fabric of the Jampui Hills community.
