Priyanka Gains Insight into Assam Congress Candidates: A Strategic Move
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, chairperson of the screening committee for the upcoming Assam assembly elections, will oversee candidate selections by accessing names proposed by grassroots Congress workers via the block Congress committees. On the first day of application submissions, five ticket aspirants-including Bipul Gogoi, the Assam PCC general secretary (administration) and former aide to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi-filed their applications at Rajiv Bhavan. The deadline for applications is January 20. Sources from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) revealed that block Congress committees will compile a confidential ‘final list’ of potential candidates, which will be sent to the district Congress committees. These districts will forward their lists to the election committee headed by Priyanka.
Each constituency comprises two to four blocks, making the opinions of block committees vital in the selection process. However, a senior Congress leader emphasized that ticket finalization will also consider Congress survey reports. So far, over 500 individuals have collected application forms online at www.apcc.assam.org. Bipul Gogoi has submitted his application for the Tingkhong constituency, while Gunakanta Gogoi has applied for Digboi, and Ranjita Pegu, Abu Taher Ali Bepari, and Amanul Islam are seeking candidacies for Jonai, Dhubri, and Goalpara East, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Congress party is ramping up efforts to create a ‘people-centric manifesto’ for the elections through the campaign titled ‘Raijor Padulit Raijor Congress’. As part of this initiative, APCC president Gaurav Gogoi met with representatives from various political parties and organizations in Charaideo district, located in upper Assam.
