Bhaona Artist Arup Saikia Celebrated at International Satra Conference
NALBARI: Writer and Bhaona artist Arup Saikia was recognized as an international Bhaona artist during the inaugural International Satra Conference at Satsangi Damodar Alga Satra in Barkuriha, Nalbari, on Sunday. This significant event was organized by the Satra Sanskritik Samaroh Samity, Namghar Sanskritik Samaroh Samity, and Dihanam Sanmilan Samity of Assam. Saikia’s contributions to the traditional culture of Assam through Bhaona have garnered international acclaim, and he has tirelessly promoted the teachings of Sankardeva across various communities in Assam, India, and beyond.
During the conference, attendees honored Saikia with a plaque, cheleng, and gamosha. Notably, he performed Bhaona in English for the first time from Assam, showcasing the art form in global venues such as Moscow, Dubai, Singapore, Finland, Hong Kong, and more. In addition to his performances, Saikia has made substantial literary contributions.
His notable works include “Bhaona and Assamese Society,” “Sankardeva,” and “The Philosophy of Neo-Vaishnavism,” among others, as stated in a press release.
