Exciting Announcement: Gerhard Erasmus to Captain Namibia in T20 World Cup 2026
All-rounder Gerhard Erasmus will captain Namibia as they aim for success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. This marks the African nation’s fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament, where they will compete in Group A against India, Pakistan, and the USA.
Erasmus is set to lead a squad that includes experienced wicketkeeper-batter Zane Green, who will play as an opening batter. The team boasts a strong mix of seasoned international players, such as JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, and Bernard Scholtz, all of whom bring valuable experience and proven records. Additional pace bowlers like Ruben Trumpelmann and Ben Shikongo enhance the team’s bowling strength. Cricket Namibia expressed their enthusiasm on social media, stating, “Our FNB Eagles are locked in for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, hosted in India & Sri Lanka. Wishing the team and management the best as they fly the Namibian flag on the global stage. Fans, get ready! Travel packages to support the boys will be announced soon.”
Namibia’s lineup gains further batting firepower from Nicol Loftie-Eaton, WP Myburgh, and Malan Kruger. Their tournament journey begins on February 10 with a match against the Netherlands at Arun Jaitley Stadium. They will face the tournament hosts, India, just two days later, on February 12. Following the game against India, Namibia will head to Chennai for their encounter with the United States on February 15, before concluding their group-stage play in Sri Lanka against Pakistan on February 18 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo. The 20-team tournament will unfold over 29 days across eight venues, including five in India and three in Sri Lanka: the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo, and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
