Discover the Sacred Relics of Buddha: India’s Timeless Heritage Awaits
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Saturday the universal significance of the wisdom and teachings of Buddha, stating that his sacred relics are not just artifacts but integral elements of India’s esteemed heritage. During the inauguration of the grand international exposition of the Piprahwa Relics, unearthed in 1898, Modi declared that the Buddha’s essence belongs to all, bridging communities worldwide.
“For India, the sacred relics of Bhagwan Buddha are not merely artifacts; they form an essential part of our revered heritage and civilization,” Modi expressed at the event, attended by Buddhist scholars, diplomats, and distinguished guests. He articulated that, after a hiatus of one and a quarter centuries, India’s heritage has finally returned home, marking a moment of pride.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the Godrej Group’s efforts in facilitating the return of these invaluable relics to their homeland. The Piprahwa relics are pivotal in the study of early Buddhism and are among the earliest and most historically significant remains directly linked to the Buddha, as noted in an official statement. Furthermore, archaeological evidence connects the Piprahwa site with ancient Kapilavastu, widely recognized as the location where the Buddha spent his early years prior to his renunciation.
