
Assam Cabinet Approves ₹1,650 Crore for Schools and New Medical College
The Assam cabinet, in its first meeting of the year on January 1, announced a significant capital investment exceeding Rs 1,650 crore aimed at enhancing education and healthcare infrastructure. This funding will facilitate the establishment of new schools and a medical college in Guwahati, marking a substantial effort to bolster public services as the new year begins.
The council of ministers allocated Rs 1,201.16 crore to construct a medical college associated with the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital and develop the Kalapahar campus in Guwahati. This initiative is designed to strengthen the city’s tertiary healthcare capacity and improve medical education.
Additionally, the cabinet approved Rs 455 crore to build 100 schools throughout the state, focusing on enhancing basic education infrastructure, particularly in areas that have historically been underserved. These decisions reflect the government’s commitment to prioritize health and education sectors in Assam. The cabinet’s actions are positioned as a pivotal move towards improving public infrastructure and services for the community.
