Shocking Revelation: Maidaan’s Makers SPEAK OUT on Allegations of Unpaid Dues to Syed Abdul Rahim’s Family – Bollywood News
Two days ago, reports emerged suggesting that the family of legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim was unhappy with the makers of the film Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn. The family claimed that royalties promised to them were not paid, and potential police action against the production team was mentioned.
In response, the film’s producers, Bayview Projects LLP, led by Boney Kapoor, released a statement refuting these claims. They clarified that they had not received any notice from the police or any state authority regarding this issue. The producers also pointed out that the legal dispute over permissions and royalties had already been settled amicably in January 2020, with all legal heirs confirming the compliance.
Their statement detailed that in 2019, Syed Abdul Raheem’s heirs filed a lawsuit seeking to halt the film’s production, claiming no permission was taken for depicting Rahim. However, Bayview argued that information about Rahim, who coached the Indian football team from 1952 to 1962, was in the public domain, thus requiring no legal permissions. The court dismissed the heirs’ injunction request in September 2019.
Despite no legal obligation, Bayview resolved the matter in good faith, reaching an agreement with the heirs, who have since supported the film. Additionally, they acquired life rights from Rahim’s son, Sqn. Ldr. Syed Shahid Hakim, facilitating the portrayal of Rahim’s life.
Ameet Naik, the production’s legal representative, emphasized that Bayview has complied with all agreements and has no outstanding dues to Rahim’s heirs. Dr. Faisal Zardi, Rahim’s grandson, and Sadia Hakim, Hakim’s wife, have also dismissed the recent allegations, praising the filmmakers for authentically representing Rahim’s legacy in Maidaan.
Bayview cautioned media outlets against spreading misinformation, threatening legal action for defamation if false reporting persists. The film, which recently won the Best Asian Film title at the Septimius Awards, continues to be a source of pride for those involved.
