Tripura has taken a significant step in enhancing cybersecurity within the power sector, becoming the first state in the northeastern region to achieve ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification at the Tripura State Load Dispatch Centre. This certification, which emphasizes information security management systems, was announced by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath during the second foundation day event of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited held in Agartala.

Minister Nath explained that this ISO/IEC certification is compulsory for all State Load Dispatch Centres (SLDCs) across India, mandated by guidelines from the Central Electricity Authority. This initiative comes amid increasing cyber threats to vital power infrastructure, aimed at safeguarding computerized systems responsible for electricity transmission and ensuring the stability of the national power grid.

“A System Surveillance Audit was conducted by the STQC at the Tripura SLDC,” the Minister clarified. He mentioned that the certification was awarded following the resolution of various non-conformities, including issues related to biometric access control, intelligent threat dissemination, VESDA smoke detection, user identity management, and physical security, with the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certificate granted by the Ministry of IT, Government of India.

Nath underscored the significance of the power sector for the state’s progress, stating, “Power is the key to development. We are modernizing our systems and implementing reforms.” He noted that load shedding, which was once commonplace, is now efficiently managed through an online system, while billing and consumer services have transitioned to digital platforms.

“Smart meters, transparent billing, 24/7 call centers, and rapid fault rectification are now realities. TSECL has undergone significant transformation,” he added.

Additionally, the Minister announced plans for the installation of underground power cables throughout the Agartala Municipal Corporation area. Officials confirmed that the detailed project report has already been completed, a move they believe will further modernize the city’s power infrastructure and enhance reliability.
