Bhaskar Raj, affectionately known as Baski, proudly presents the menu featuring traditional dishes from the Kongu region. “You can never take Pallipalayam chicken out of Coimbatore,” he chuckles as he serves a plate of Kongunadu kola urundai, a specialty that highlights the local chicken, enhanced with shallots, red chilies, and coconut. Co-founder G. Susindran emphasizes the restaurant’s mission: to provide quintessential South Indian cuisine around the clock, with a kitchen operating from 7 AM to 2 AM. He shares a memorable anecdote of a midnight request from a diner in Erode who craved hot idlis and ayira meenkuzhambu. Susindran’s extensive experience in the hospitality industry-both domestically and internationally-has been instrumental in establishing this standalone restaurant.
In collaborating with Baski, Susindran embarked on a journey across South India to curate the menu. During their explorations, they unearthed treasures like mutton sukka and parotta from a quaint eatery in Madurai. In Mangalore, they discovered coastal dishes characterized by simple yet flavorful spices. Specialties include Malabar koonthal (squid) roast, prepared with coconut oil, and fish wrapped in banana leaves-reflecting home-cooked traditions. “We wanted every dish to stand out,” Baski states, elaborating on the signature ayira meen kuzhambu, a tangy Madurai curry made from tender ayirai fish. The meticulous cleaning process ensures the fish-sourced from Madurai-is prepared fresh upon order.
While ayira meen kuzhambu and idlis pair perfectly, guests are also invited to try the dish with thengaipaal neichoru (ghee rice infused with coconut milk), parotta, or dosa. “Our goal is to offer authentic, home-style flavors in a premium dining space, enhanced by live bands,” says Susindran, noting the stunning views of the flyover and the nearby airport’s runway where flights frequently land.
The extensive menu includes dishes like paalchatti parotta, mutton sukka biryani, kozhi ennasukka biryani, idiyappam with aatukaal paaya, and various other enticing options. “We employ hand-pounded spices for our non-vegetarian preparations and aim for gravies that are flavorful yet light,” Baski explains, eyeing a dessert of tender coconut pudding that promises a creamy, subtly sweet finish.
Diners can also enjoy comforting ghee rasam rice, a quintessential South Indian one-pot meal, alongside spicy Telangana fried chicken and flaky coin parottas partnered with a rich Kundapur chicken roast.
