BJP’s Key Executive Meeting: Strategies Unveiled Ahead of Polls
Guwahati: The BJP is set to convene a two-day executive meeting starting Friday to strategize for the upcoming elections for the 126-member legislative assembly, anticipated to take place in March-April next year. Dilip Saikia, the state’s BJP president, stated that key party figures including national working president Nitin Nabin, general secretary (Organization) BL Santosh, and newly appointed election in-charge for Assam and national vice-president Baijayant Panda will lead the discussions. Approximately 900 BJP leaders from various ranks across the state are expected to participate.
During the meeting, “Every aspect will be minutely examined for chalking out the strategies for elections,” Saikia emphasized, confirming the party’s diligence in preparing well in advance. He noted that the BJP remains committed to rigorous groundwork since the conclusion of the 2021 assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Assam by the end of December or early January to finalize the party’s election strategies. The BJP is targeting over 100 seats in the legislative assembly and believes that the delimitation process undertaken in 2022-23 will bolster their chances of gaining additional seats.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state aims to enhance its vote share compared to previous elections. Recently, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed the NDA’s ambition to secure over 50% of the vote in the upcoming assembly elections. He reiterated confidence in the NDA’s return to power in Assam but refrained from speculating on the precise number of seats the BJP might win.
