IndiGo CEO Encourages Team: Speculation Over, Flights Stabilize Ahead!
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers addressed employees on Thursday, reassuring them that the airline has stabilized its operations after recent disruptions, stating that “the worst is behind us.” In a video message, he emphasized the importance of avoiding speculation and maintaining focus on professional responsibilities as the airline restores its flight network. Elbers noted that IndiGo has resumed operations with a network of 2,200 flights, concentrating on resilience, root cause analysis, and rebuilding.
Elbers acknowledged the challenges faced over the past two weeks, thanking pilots, cabin crew, airport staff, and other teams for their collective dedication. “Dear IndiGo colleagues, through the storm we are finding our wings again. The worst is behind us,” he said, reflecting on the difficult circumstances.
The CEO pointed out the airline’s recovery, recalling that he first announced the stabilization of operations on December 9. He praised the team’s efforts in restoring the network quickly, highlighting the scale and complexity of the task as a testament to their teamwork.
Looking ahead, Elbers outlined three key priorities: resilience, root cause analysis, and rebuilding, especially with the winter season presenting additional operational challenges. He mentioned that the cold weather and disruptions caused by bad conditions would be a focus to ensure stability and minimize impacts on both operations and customers.
When discussing the earlier disruptions, Elbers advised against speculation regarding their causes. He described the events as a compounding effect of several factors, urging everyone to stay calm and concentrate on their professional duties. He also announced the appointment of an external aviation expert by the board to conduct a thorough root cause analysis, which will include learning from issues faced by other large airlines globally.
To reinforce their commitment, Elbers and the leadership team will visit various locations to engage with employees and better understand the challenges they encountered during the disruptions. IndiGo experienced widespread flight cancellations and delays from December 3 to 5 due to operational and system-related issues, which affected many passengers across various airports. During this period, the airline issued public advisories and apologies while working to stabilize its schedules and address backlogs. Elbers concluded by asserting that these recent disruptions should not overshadow the airline’s 19-year journey.
