MEA’s Controversial Move: Revoking Passports of Luthra Brothers?
The Ministry of External Affairs is currently evaluating a request from the Goa government to revoke the passports of Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, the co-owners of the nightclub where a devastating fire claimed the lives of 25 individuals on December 6. According to a report from PTI, the ministry has received formal communication regarding the Luthra brothers and is reviewing the request in accordance with the Passports Act of India.
Following the tragic event, the Luthra brothers reportedly traveled to Phuket, Thailand, which led to authorities issuing an Interpol Blue Corner Notice to track their whereabouts. A Delhi court has denied the brothers any interim protection from arrest, even as their business partner has been taken into custody as a part of the ongoing investigation.
In court, the Luthras’ lawyer argued against claims of their absconding, asserting that their trip was for a business meeting. The lawyer also emphasized that the brothers are merely license holders and not the primary owners of the nightclub. Meanwhile, the Goa Police have made several arrests, detaining five managers and staff members involved in the establishment as the investigation continues into the fire that broke out around midnight at the club, located roughly 25 kilometers from Panaji.
