Kohima: The 26th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2025 concluded in grand style at Unity Plaza, Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, Nagaland, on Wednesday evening, featuring a variety of cultural performances to celebrate the festival’s closing ceremony.
The event showcased performances from numerous Naga tribes, each highlighting their unique heritage through song, dance, and traditional games. Additionally, Nagaland’s Task Force for Music and Arts captivated spectators with their remarkable displays of talent.
The festival reached its formal conclusion when Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, Miss Nagaland 2025 Linoka K. Achumi, and other dignitaries lit a ceremonial bonfire. In his address, Zeliang spoke to the significance of the Hornbill Festival, affectionately referred to as the “Festival of Festivals.” He emphasized that the event is an important venue for showcasing the Naga people’s traditions, culture, and cuisine.
“This festival has provided our tribes, villages, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, and youth a vital platform to display our incredible diversity and talents to the world. Beyond mere celebration, it has become a meeting ground where different cultures intersect, generations connect, and aspirations take shape,” he noted. Zeliang highlighted that once-held misconceptions about Nagaland and the Naga people are now being dispelled as visitors experience the hospitality, kindness, and rich cultural fabric of the region.
Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tourism and Higher Education and festival host, expressed gratitude to the attendees, well-wishers, and tourists who participated in the Hornbill Festival. He commended the artists and performers across both traditional and contemporary art forms for their unwavering dedication to promoting the rich culture and traditions of the Nagas to an external audience.
While acknowledging the contributions of various country and state partners, Along stated that the relationships and collaborations fostered through the festival would endure. Special guest Pasang Dorjee Sona, the Tourism Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, remarked that the Hornbill Festival serves as a vital window for the world to understand the Northeast, particularly Nagaland.
Raymond Mullen, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of Ireland in India, shared his team’s profound appreciation for the generosity and warmth of the Nagaland people. Similarly, Reuben Gauci, High Commissioner of the Republic of Malta to India, expressed that Nagaland holds a unique place in his heart, highlighting the warmth and character of its people.
