Unlock Financial Wisdom: SEBI Educates at Silchar Book Fair to Combat Scams
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has transformed its stall at the Assam Book Fair in Silchar into an engaging learning space, attracting significant interest from visitors. Initially a humble exhibit, the stall has now become a hub of inquiry and discovery, showcasing essential financial education.
Representatives from SEBI, alongside partners like the Bombay Stock Exchange and Multi Commodity Exchange, are actively engaging with attendees. The stall features charts and informative posters illustrating how fraudsters operate, live demonstrations on market risks, and handouts that guide safe investing practices.
Sukanya Banerjee, Deputy General Manager of SEBI’s Eastern Region, emphasized the initiative’s importance: “We are here with one core mission; to ensure people invest safely.” She highlighted that awareness is crucial in preventing financial fraud, stating, “If investors understand the do’s and don’ts, the red flags, and the risks, they will not fall prey to financial fraud.”
As of Tuesday, over 1,500 visitors had explored the stall, with many being students and first-time earners grappling with the complexities of securities and investment opportunities. Nilabja Kanti Paul, Regional Manager of Nippon India Mutual Fund, noted the remarkable turnout and the eagerness of people to discern legitimate investment avenues, citing the prevalence of misinformation as a significant concern.
Special efforts are underway to showcase SEBI’s strategies for tackling scams. The ten-day book fair, which commenced on December 1, has been praised by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, who characterized SEBI’s involvement as a “timely intervention” in a space bustling with young minds eager to learn.
The fair has developed a vibrant atmosphere, with dazzling stalls under evening lights and families exploring both books and informative setups like SEBI’s. Amid the scent of fresh publications and the soft chatter of visitors, SEBI’s stall stands out-not as a warning, but as an invitation to learn, engage, and invest wisely.
