Northeast Frontier Railway Launches Special Trains to Alleviate Travel Chaos
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is responding to the ongoing cancellations of Indigo flights by implementing measures to assist affected passengers. This includes increasing capacity on several key trains, such as the Rajdhani Express, and introducing special services to major destinations like Delhi and Howrah. NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, announced that additional coaches of various classes have been added to numerous trains to better accommodate travelers.
In a recent update, two special trains are set to operate on Monday, connecting Dibrugarh to New Delhi and Guwahati to Howrah. Starting this Saturday, the NFR has added extra coaches to seven pairs of major trains, an increase that will be in effect from December 12 to 16 to meet the festive and peak tourism demand.
Moreover, Sharma indicated that 20 coaches will be attached to 18 different trains to help alleviate passenger congestion across various routes. Among these trains is the Sairang-Guwahati Express, which received two additional coaches over the weekend. Additionally, a special train consisting of 14 coaches will run between Dimapur and Sairang on Thursday, with another service scheduled between Sairang and Guwahati on Friday.
With the flight disruptions causing significant travel issues, both inbound and outbound trains are experiencing a surge in demand. To manage the increased passenger load, the NFR has temporarily attached extra coaches to several trains. This initiative aims to assist stranded travelers and ensure smooth connectivity in the northeast region.
Officials from the railway emphasize that these actions demonstrate NFR’s commitment to passenger welfare. As tourist traffic rises in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram during the winter season, the additional train capacity is expected to benefit both locals and visitors alike. This move comes amidst Indigo Airlines canceling thousands of flights in recent days due to operational challenges largely stemming from a crew shortage.
