Urgent Action: Assam CM Demands Swift Road Repairs in Barak Valley by Durga Puja
Silchar, Aug 22: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, on a three-day visit to Barak Valley, addressed the critical issue of the deteriorating road conditions, promising repairs before Durga Puja. During his visit, Dr. Sarma acknowledged the poor state of the roads, which had been superficially repaired prior to his arrival. He criticized these temporary fixes and emphasized the need for quality work, urging patience until Durga Puja for substantial improvements.
Dr. Sarma’s commitment came after performing the Bhumi Pujan for the Government Model College at Borjalenga in the Dholai constituency, Cachar district, with a budget allocation of ₹35 crore for the college’s construction.
Regarding the upcoming by-poll in Dholai, Dr. Sarma stated that the candidate selection would be entrusted to Silchar MP and former Dholai MLA, Parimal Suklabaidiya. He affirmed that better facilities would be provided in Dholai, including additional ration cards, following the by-elections.
On the delayed Silchar Municipal Corporation elections, Dr. Sarma explained the stall due to an ongoing case in the Gauhati High Court, encouraging residents to voice their demands for the election and consider filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to expedite proceedings.
In addition, Dr. Sarma laid the foundation for an RCC bridge over the Barak River at Silghat in the Lakhipur constituency. The 340-meter bridge, costing ₹87 crore, aims to enhance connectivity within the Cachar district by significantly reducing travel distances for residents of nearby villages to Silchar town. The bridge is expected to facilitate better trading and transportation of agricultural products, thus contributing to the region’s economic and social development.
The Chief Minister’s visit underscores his administration’s dedication to infrastructural improvements and responsive governance in Barak Valley, with a focus on enduring solutions and community welfare ahead of the festive season.
