The Indian People’s Theatre Association held its state conference successfully on November 30 at the New Art Players auditorium in Guwahati. Over a hundred representatives from various regions of Assam participated in this significant event.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the conference, a committee was formed, comprising Ghan Deka, Devashish Chakravarty, Aparajita Chowdhury, and Nripen Nath. Additionally, Naren Patgiri, Soneshwar Norah, and Sushovan Talukdar were responsible for management.
The conference commenced with the organization’s song “Tore More Alokore Jatra.” Following the welcome speech, vocalist Ghan Deka presented the editorial report. Subsequently, playwright and director Naren Patgiri delivered an extensive speech on the theme “The Collective Path of Discussing the Tradition and Culture of the People’s Theatre Association.” Cultural worker Soneshwar Norah elucidated perspectives regarding the future approaches of the association.
Prominent local vocalists such as Lohit Gogoi and Yogesh Bikash Gogoi, along with folk artists from Karbi Anglong and Golaghat-namely Joymati Narzary and Rumi Saikia-speakers Dilip Phukan, a celebrated poet from Tezpur; writer Arbind Rajkhowa from Lakhimpur; and renowned Dhuliya Ojha Dhaneshwar Saikia from Golaghat, also addressed the audience.
Representatives from various districts such as Goalpara, Barpeta, Pathsala, Rongia, Goreswar, Mangaldoi, Jorhat, Guwahati, and Silchar contributed valuable insights and suggestions regarding the future pathways of the People’s Theatre.
During the conference, a new 25-member state committee was formed, with Ghan Deka as president and Naren Patgiri as secretary.
Moreover, proposals were accepted to celebrate the centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Keshav Mahanta, Nabakanta Barua, and Rudra Barua. The state conference is set to commence on September 8 next year-Dr. Hazarika’s birthday-with a closing ceremony for the centenary celebration. The conference concluded successfully at 4 PM.
