AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has signaled potential support for the NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar, stating his party would offer “full cooperation” if the government effectively addresses communal issues in the predominantly Muslim Seemanchal region. During a two-day visit to Seemanchal, where AIMIM recently secured five seats in the Bihar Assembly elections, Owaisi emphasized the need for justice in a region he describes as overlooked by the government.
Owaisi expressed his good wishes for the newly formed government in Patna, asserting that his cooperation would be contingent upon the government’s commitment to justice for Seemanchal and its efforts to curb communal tensions. His statements arise amid ongoing allegations from the BJP, claiming rampant immigration in Seemanchal has led to demographic shifts.
Addressing the development needs of Seemanchal, Owaisi urged the NDA to focus on this neglected area instead of prioritizing Patna and Rajgir, the latter being a significant site for recent developmental projects, including an international cricket stadium. He stressed that the AIMIM champions the rights of all in Seemanchal, which also has a considerable population of Dalits and tribals.
Owaisi further critiqued the RJD, the leading party in the opposition coalition, suggesting that those relying on the “Muslim-Yadav” alliance to secure votes must reconsider their strategy, as such tactics have not proven effective in halting the BJP’s progress.
Earlier this month, the NDA emerged victorious in the Bihar Assembly elections, capturing over 200 seats in the 243-member assembly, with the BJP being the single-largest party. In stark contrast, the opposition coalition, led by RJD and Congress, suffered a significant setback, winning only 33 of the 243 seats.
