Empowering Humanity: PM Modi Advocates AI to Enhance Human Potential at G20
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the necessity for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to promote global welfare during his address at the third session of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg on November 23. He called for an international compact grounded in principles of transparency, human oversight, safety-by-design, and prevention of misuse. In discussions surrounding “A Fair and a Just Future for All – Critical Minerals; Decent Work; Artificial Intelligence,” Modi highlighted that while AI should enhance human capabilities, the ultimate decision-making power must remain in human hands.
The Prime Minister asserted that technological applications should be “human-centric” instead of “finance-centric”, “global” rather than “national”, and favor “open source” models over “exclusive” ones. He pointed out that this vision is already integral to India’s tech ecosystem, which has made significant strides in sectors like space applications, AI, and digital payments, establishing India as a global leader in these fields.
Modi also shared India’s strategy for AI, which focuses on equitable access, widespread skills development, and responsible deployment. Under the India-AI Mission, efforts are underway to create accessible high-performance computing resources, ensuring that the benefits of AI are distributed across the nation.
In a forward-looking announcement, Modi indicated that India will host the AI Impact Summit in February 2026, themed “Sarvajanam Hitaya, Sarvajanam Sukhaya” (Welfare for all, Happiness for all), inviting all G20 nations to participate. He stressed the urgency of transitioning from “Jobs of Today” to “Capabilities of Tomorrow” amid the AI revolution. Reflecting on the talent mobility progress made at the New Delhi G20 Summit, he proposed that the group develop a global talent mobility framework in the years to come.
Concluding his remarks, Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to inclusive growth, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to sustainable development, reliable trade, fair finance, and prosperity for all.
