Maharashtra Unveils Ambitious $1 Trillion Economy Vision at 10th Global Economic Summit
The World Trade Centre in Mumbai and the All-India Association of Industries (AIAI) hosted the 10th Global Economic Summit (GES) and WTCA Asia Pacific Conference over the weekend. The gathering attracted ministers, policymakers, diplomats, international delegates, and business representatives who came together to explore trade and economic opportunities.
During the conference, Maharashtra Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Animal Husbandry, Pankaja Munde, highlighted the government’s initiatives aimed at economic development. “The Government of Maharashtra has undertaken various initiatives in shaping policies for economic development to achieve a one trillion-dollar economy by 2027. Our Chief Minister’s vision is to engage all stakeholders in economic growth, employment, and exports,” she stated.
Munde also discussed policy priorities focused on sustainability and renewable energy, noting that Maharashtra ranks highest in foreign direct investment (FDI) and has robust activity in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, engineering, IT, and IT-enabled services. She emphasized support for start-ups, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and industrial clusters.
Ameet Satam, the Mumbai BJP chief, remarked on Maharashtra’s commitment to attracting investors. “As India’s economic and commercial capital, Maharashtra extends a warm welcome to investors, offering not just a conducive environment but also skilled talent,” he said.
Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairperson of WTC Mumbai and President of AIAI, expressed gratitude towards the delegates and noted that the summit saw participation from over 500 delegates across more than 35 countries, facilitating over 5,000 B2B meetings. “This summit is about connecting businesses, fostering innovation, and encouraging collaboration within the business community,” Dr. Kalantri added, underscoring the organization’s efforts in supporting MSMEs, start-ups, women entrepreneurs, and cross-border trade.
