SDF Commends NCW for Swift Response to Online Abuse Complaint
The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party has expressed its heartfelt thanks to the National Commission for Women (NCW) for their swift response regarding a troubling case of cyberbullying, including threats of rape and harassment aimed at the party’s female spokesperson and another woman in Sikkim.
In a press release issued on Thursday, Dr. Neeru Sewa, the senior vice president of the SDF, revealed that the party had received formal communication from the NCW about the incident. The commission reached out to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Gangtok on November 14, requesting a report on actions taken regarding the case.
The NCW’s letter emphasized the need for communication regarding the actions taken within 30 days of receipt. It also cautioned that if there is no response or if the report is not submitted in the specified timeframe, the commission will proceed with appropriate actions as deemed necessary.
Dr. Sewa remarked, “The SDF party appreciates the commission’s timely intervention in this serious matter. We trust that the concerned state authorities will treat this case with the urgency it deserves and ensure that all legal processes are carried out swiftly and transparently. Cyberbullying and threats of rape against women cannot be tolerated in any democratic society, and it is essential that strong actions are taken to deter such violent behavior in the future.”
Furthermore, she reaffirmed the SDF’s commitment to safeguarding democratic rights and advocating for the safety, dignity, and justice of all women in Sikkim. Dr. Sewa concluded by stating that the party looks forward to a comprehensive investigation and a prompt resolution in accordance with the law.
