Revelations from Dr. Shaheen Sayeed’s Family: Shocking Links to Delhi Blast and Her Ex-Husband’s Heartbreaking Claim of ‘Wanting to Escape Abroad’
In the aftermath of the devastating car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi, investigations have uncovered alarming links to the Faridabad terror module associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed. The high-intensity explosion, which occurred on November 10 and resulted in nearly 13 fatalities and numerous injuries, has led authorities to focus on Dr. Shaheen Sayeed. She is one of the suspects linked to a recent recovery of explosive materials in Faridabad. Allegations suggest that Dr. Shaheen may have been leading the women’s recruitment wing of the banned organization in India, specifically heading the Jamaat-ul-Mominat.
Kanpur Joint Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Kumar revealed that Dr. Shaheen, who previously served as a lecturer in the Pharmacology Department at JSM College, is now a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. “We are examining her activities, including whom she interacted with, to determine any potential connections to terrorist activities,” Kumar stated, emphasizing that previous suspects involved in riots are also being scrutinized.
Dr. Shaheen’s ex-husband, Dr. Hayat Zafar, expressed disbelief at the allegations against her, claiming they lived a peaceful life together with two children. “We were married for nine years until she expressed a desire to relocate abroad. I had no knowledge of any ties to extremism,” he shared.
Compounding the matter, Dr. Shaheen’s father, one of the suspects, mentioned that law enforcement had searched their home but found no incriminating evidence. “I will not comment further, even if ordered by a court,” he stated, suggesting a deep discomfort with the unfolding situation.
Dr. Shaheen’s brother, Mohammad Shoaib, spoke to reporters, noting his shock at the developments. “She was well-educated and began living separately. What has been reported in the media is only a fraction; the agencies possess more information,” he explained, articulating his difficulty in reconciling these serious allegations with his sister’s background.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are digging into the connection between Dr. Shaheen and the hastily assembled explosive device that triggered the blast. Reports indicate that the explosive was allegedly a result of panic among operatives following the exposure of a terror module in Haryana. The authorities have turned their focus on Umar Nabi, a doctor from Pulwama, who was driving the Hyundai i20 on the day of the incident.
This explosion follows a broader crackdown on a “white collar” terror module associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, which spans several northern Indian states, including Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Days before the blast, law enforcement seized approximately 2,500 kilograms of explosive materials, including ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulfur from Faridabad, leading to the detention of eight individuals, among whom are three medical professionals, including Dr. Shaheen and Dr. Muzammil Ganaie from Al-Falah University.
Forensic tests at the blast site have preliminary identified one of the explosive components as likely being ammonium nitrate. As the investigation intensifies, the dialogue surrounding national security and the threat of terrorism continues to dominate public discourse, urging a need for heightened vigilance and thorough examination of potential threats within the country.
