The Borobekra Volleyball Tournament 2025, hosted by the 20th Battalion of the CRPF in Jiribam and supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Khelo India initiative, commenced on Wednesday, November 12, at Netaji High School in Borobekra.

The tournament’s opening match featured an exciting clash between the Thangboipunjee Volleyball Team and the Dholakhal Volleyball Team, with Thangboipunjee emerging victorious in straight sets, winning 25–10 and 25–15. A total of 20 teams are participating in this year’s tournament, which will conclude with the final match on November 14.

Krishna Kumar, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jiribam, was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony. In his address, he praised the tournament as a dynamic platform for promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among young people. He underlined that such events enhance community bonds while cultivating leadership and collective responsibility.

Emphasizing the district administration’s goals, Krishna Kumar reiterated the commitment to fostering inclusive development and citizen welfare, stating, “Nation-building is a continuous process that requires cooperation and active participation from every individual.” He expressed gratitude to the CRPF, local police, and other security forces for maintaining peace and stability in the district, which allows events like this to flourish.

After the inaugural events, the Deputy Commissioner, along with Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey, IPS, and Commandant of the 20th Battalion CRPF, Karowng Haopu, conducted a field inspection of damaged homes in Jakuradhor Karong, Lamdai Khunou, and Modhupur. Their visit focused on resettlement efforts for displaced individuals currently living in relief camps.

During this visit, the officials interacted with camp residents, distributed toys and sweets, and provided sports materials to youth clubs in Jakuradhor and Lambhutangkhal, as well as to students from Netaji Government High School and residents of the Borobekra Police Station Relief Camp.

The DC also assessed the progress of the Jiribam–Tipaimukh Road project, collaborating with the relevant Executive Engineer and contractor to ensure its timely completion.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including Major Dhananjoy from the 38th Assam Rifles, ADC Jiribam Th. Manoranjan Singh, MCS, SDOs L. Tarajeet and Lalthangam, Rothangbhum Sungte (Joint Secretary of Hmar Inpui Supreme House), Vanlal (President of Hmar Inpui Jiribam Region), and BDO RK Sailash Singh, among others.
