India has vehemently condemned cross-border terrorism from Pakistan, reaffirming its stance that such actions will not be tolerated. This strong response began with Operation Sindoor, aimed at addressing threats emanating from across the border. Harish emphasized that the council should adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward those who enable and support the trafficking of weapons. His remarks come in the wake of a tragic explosion in New Delhi’s Red Fort area, which killed at least nine people and injured many others. This incident, reportedly caused by a bomb detonated in a car at a traffic signal, serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by unchecked cross-border terrorism.
In his address, Harish pointedly referenced the consequences of cross-border terrorism, implicitly targeting Pakistan. He stated, “India has suffered from terrorism fueled by illicit weapons trafficked across our borders, including through drones.” He underscored the increasing sophistication of such weapons, noting that militant groups rely on external support to sustain their operations.
During this crucial address, India highlighted the ongoing issue of illicit small arms trade, which continues to fuel armed groups and terrorist organizations. Harish called for organized efforts to prevent these groups from acquiring such weaponry, insisting that the UN Security Council must maintain a stringent stance against terrorism and those who support it.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed that arms embargoes approved by the Council are essential to limiting weapon flow into conflict zones, advocating for their consistent and unbiased implementation.
