Shah Bano’s Family FURIOUSLY Accuses Haq Creators of Distortion: ‘This Isn’t Just a Story-It’s Our Privacy at Stake!’
Shah Bano’s Descendant Objects to ‘Haq’: A Family’s Private Drama Hits the Silver Screen
Jubair Ahmad Khan, grandson of the legendary Shah Bano Begum, is raising a storm over the upcoming film Haq, inspired by the pivotal 1985 Supreme Court case Mohd Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum. This courtroom clash transformed maintenance laws for divorced Muslim women, earning Shah Bano an enduring legacy-and a cherished place in her family’s heart.
In a candid conversation with ANI, Jubair didn’t mince words, accusing the filmmakers of crafting this narrative without any consultation from the family. “It’s as if our family’s private struggles have been tossed onto a cinematic platter for profit,” he lamented. With sharp eyes, he called out the teaser’s ‘distorted’ portrayal of events, insisting it infringes on their privacy. “Anything that happens affects us, yet they approached us without a whisper.”
He pointed out alarming inaccuracies in the teaser, warning that it risks misleading the public into believing they’re witnessing a factual retelling. “This isn’t just dramatization; it’s our family’s intimate saga drenched in commercial gloss,” he charged. The family’s legal notice previously demanded that all promotional activities, screenings, and releases of Haq be halted, citing unauthorized use of personal details that are too sensitive to showcase.
The film, set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025, boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, under the direction of Suparn S. Verma at Junglee Pictures. In response to Jubair’s claims, producer’s lawyer Ajay Bagadiya defended the project, asserting that it carries a disclaimer highlighting its fictional narrative inspired by the Supreme Court judgment and a book titled Bano, Bharat ki Beti. However, he also cast doubt on the legitimacy of the petitioner’s claim that she is Shah Bano’s daughter, adding yet another layer of intrigue to this unfolding drama.
Despite the producers’ insistence on a fictionalized portrayal, Jubair maintains that the film strays far from its supposed premise. “If it’s based only on the case, we should be seeing court proceedings. But the trailer diverges into realms that twist the truth,” he explained, laying bare the family’s frustrations.
As this cinematic saga unfolds, one can’t help but wonder: will the allure of drama and entertainment outweigh the family’s pleas for dignity and truth? One thing is certain, darling-this tale is as captivating as the silver screen itself!
