Former President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning regarding potential funding cuts to New York City if Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani emerges victorious in the upcoming mayoral elections. In a provocative post on his platform Truth Social, Trump expressed his support for former Governor Andrew Cuomo, characterizing Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, as a “Communist” whose leadership would spell disaster for the city.
Trump’s post outlined a grim outlook for New York City under Mamdani, asserting, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home…as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!” He goes on to say that sending federal funds to the city under Mamdani’s leadership would be an irresponsible allocation of resources.
The former president argued that the ideals Mamdani represents have historically led to failure, stating, “His principles have been tested for over a thousand years and never once have they been successful.” Trump emphasized that the city could head toward “Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster” if Mamdani wins, underscoring his belief that good governance requires a responsible allocation of federal support.
In contrast, Trump has thrown his weight behind Cuomo, branding him a preferable choice over Mamdani. “I would much rather see a Democrat with a record of success WIN than a Communist with no experience and a Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE,” Trump said, referring to Mamdani’s past political performance. The former president criticized Mamdani’s tenure as an Assemblyman, claiming he “was nothing…ranked at the bottom of the class,” while questioning his ability to lead New York City back to its “former Glory.”
Additionally, Trump cautioned voters against supporting Republican Curtis Sliwa, suggesting that a vote for Sliwa could inadvertently aid Mamdani’s campaign. “A vote for Curtis Sliwa…is a vote for Mamdani,” Trump asserted. He urged supporters to consider the implications of their choices carefully: “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it; Mamdani is not!”
