Delhi’s Gloomy Weather: Light Rain Brings Hope Amidst ‘Very Poor’ Air Quality

By adminitfy
October 27, 2025 2 Min Read

On October 21, 2025, New Delhi’s air quality continued to suffer, remaining in the “very poor” category as residents faced a haze of smog. Despite a forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting partly cloudy conditions with potential very light evening rain, the city’s air woes persisted. Early morning temperatures hovered at a minimum of 17.3°C, slightly above the seasonal average, while maximum temperatures were expected to reach around 29°C. The humidity level was notably high at 94% at 8:30 a.m.

The Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) Sameer app reported alarming air quality figures, particularly in areas like Bawana and Anand Vihar, which saw Air Quality Index (AQI) readings of 401 and 431, categorizing the air there as severely polluted. Out of 38 monitoring stations throughout the city, 23 registered “very poor” air quality, with AQI levels soaring above 300.

Recent data reveals some fluctuation in air quality, as the previous day, October 26, 2025, had seen a brief respite when the AQI dropped to 292 in the evening, marking a transition to the “poor” category after most of the day in the “very poor” range. The minimum temperature recorded that day was the lowest October reading in two years, settling at 15.8°C. This time last year saw a similar pattern, with temperatures dipping to 15.9°C, while October 2023 recorded a slightly higher minimum of 17.4°C.

The CPCB’s AQI classifications indicate that levels between 0 and 50 are considered “good,” 51-100 “satisfactory,” 101-200 “moderate,” 201-300 “poor,” 301-400 “very poor,” and anything above 400 is categorized as “severe.” These figures underscore a troubling trend for the national capital, as residents remain vigilant about their health and well-being amid deteriorating air quality.

As Delhi grapples with these environmental challenges, residents are urged to stay informed about air quality updates and take necessary precautions, particularly when heading outdoors. The ongoing battle against pollution continues to highlight the urgent need for effective environmental policies to ensure cleaner air for future generations.

Through these pressing patterns, it has become increasingly crucial for individuals to be aware of air quality levels and what they signify for everyday life in the capital. As the conversation around climate and public health intensifies, officials and citizens alike are reminded that change is essential, with awareness being the first step toward a healthier urban environment.

Published on October 27, 2025, this report serves as a crucial reminder of the impact of environmental factors on daily life in Delhi.
