In a rapid and well-coordinated operation, a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) from the South-East District and Pul Prahladpur Police apprehended a wanted robber, Himanshu (23), after a brief shootout near Badarpur Flyover Park in New Delhi. The incident took place on Saturday night, during which Himanshu sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and was promptly taken to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment. He remains in police custody.
Authorities recovered a semi-automatic pistol (.32 bore) along with two live cartridges from Himanshu. Additionally, four empty cartridges-two fired by him and two by the police-were collected from the scene. Himanshu is a suspect in an armed robbery incident involving a Domino’s delivery boy, which took place on October 22. This robbery, filmed and circulated widely on social media, catalyzed immediate police action.
Dr. Hemant Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the South-East District, commended the operation, stating, “The swift and courageous action by our joint team led to the apprehension of a desperate and armed criminal within 72 hours of the incident. Our officers displayed exemplary bravery and professionalism during the encounter.”
An official press release from the Delhi Police emphasized their commitment to maintaining law and order, highlighting the operation as a prime example of their proactive measures against repeat offenders. The South-East District Police continues to be vigilant in light of an increase in armed robberies and snatchings.
Initial investigations reveal that Himanshu is a habitual offender, with a criminal background that includes at least three prior cases of kidnapping, robbery, and snatching. He was released from prison in June and had recently returned to street crimes in South Delhi.
A case has been registered at the Badarpur Police Station under relevant legal sections, and investigations are ongoing to locate his accomplice, Kaushal, who is currently at large. This operation has garnered praise for its efficiency, exemplifying effective collaborative policing between district units and special task forces.
